Temp 1-2-1: Steven Blassberg, Marketing Assistant at Warwick Employment Group (WEG)
Steven is one of Warwick Employment Group's new Marketing team recruits. Here he talks about how Unitemps has helped him gain valuable Marketing experience having just graduated from university.
Why did you start temping?
Before studying at University, I was in the military for 4 years, which is worlds apart from what I do now so I needed to gain some experience in a relevant industry. Whilst at university I did a placement year abroad so I was well aware of the benefits a temporary position holds, such as experience and learning opportunities. As I’m at the beginning of my career, choosing a temp job was an easy choice for me because I knew it offered a more flexible experience in marketing that other jobs couldn’t offer. This has meant I have been able to gain even more experience in the areas of business I want to and, equally as important, it’s allowed me to earn a wage straight after finishing uni!
What kinds of roles have you taken on in your temping career?
This is my first temp job so I can’t expand too much on this, but I have friends that have done all sorts of temp jobs from events work to tutoring students at all levels of education. These temporary jobs have even helped some of them to get permanent jobs based on the work they did whilst temping.
How did the flexibility of temping help you?
My role is a 9-5 but I had a flexible working hours job whilst at University which was ideal for me as it allowed me to fit work in around studying and other hobbies, rather than the other way around, or even missing out on activities altogether due to work commitments.
If you could give temps one piece of advice, what would it be?
Apply now! If you keep waiting for the ‘perfect’ time to apply, you could easily end up being too late and missing opportunities to work. If you don’t put yourself out there, employers won’t know you’re looking.
