This job is part of the Middlesex University Students’ Union’s Community Placement Scheme and is only available to current students of Middlesex University. The scheme has been established to ensure students are paid London Living Wage (£10.55) to put your studies or interests to use practically on placements whilst helping the local community. The scheme is designed to boost student employability and increase collaboration within Barnet and beyond.

Organisation description

Community Souls is a social enterprise that trades as a cleaning company, employing adults (18+) who are dependent on benefits, low income and furthest from the job market. We are springboard for boh their personal & professional development; providing secure employment and personal development support to break down the barriers that prevent them from entering long-term employment.
Our priorities for 2019/20 are to;
1. Increase the working hours for current staff
2. Employ/ support 5 more people
3. Expand the package of support we offer our staff
4. Expand our services to new communities.
We will achieve this by;
1. Securing further funding/ investment
2. Increasing our operational capacity
3. Improving our strategy for securing new business.
The Business Development Officer at Community Souls will drive forward our strategy for new business; ensuring we can engage and inspire more businesses to take on our services, and in turn transform the lives of people living in their communities.

This an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to build a career within the social sector, this role offers excellent scope for personal development and growth as well as the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of others in Barnet.
You will be immersed in the day-to-day life of a small, dynamic social business, with the opportunity to learn directly from our Founder and Director who you will work alongside and report into.
It will require you to be motivated, hands-on, solutions focused and flexible in your approach. You’ll have strong communication and organisational skills, the ability to turn ideas into reality, and you’ll be excited by the opportunity to bring your expertise and enthusiasm to grow our business at this exciting stage in our development. As the Business Development Officer at Community Souls, you will be responsible for;
? Researching and identifying new business leads
? Developing and implementing a marketing strategy to engage new business
? Working with the Director to tailor and deliver ‘partnership’ pitches
? Producing and distributing marketing materials.
? Supporting the implementation of a CRM system to monitor this function.
Essential

• Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work well with others as well as to have leadership skills.
• Excellent communication skills, and confident in writing external communications to promote new business.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and plan a workload effectively
• Understanding of marketing principles
• Creative and resourceful
• Proactive and determined
• Excellent ICT skills, including experience using spreadsheets and presentation software.
• A demonstrable commitment to equality and diversity which actively informs your approach to work.
