Worker Guidance - COVID-19

If you are a Unitemps worker and you are able to work from home with your hiring manager's approval, please do so. If you are not able to work due to sickness, self-isolation, or are caring for someone in the same household who is displaying COVID-19 symptoms, we are following the procedures set out by the Government, which can be found here.

In this instance, you may be eligible to claim statutory sick pay (SSP), in which case you must email unitemps@canterbury.ac.uk to request a self-certification form. Please complete this form and return it to us. We will then share this document with payroll who will check if you are eligible for SSP. To be eligible for this, you must have earned an average of £118 or more, each week for the past eight weeks. If you do not meet this criteria, the payroll team will send you an SSP1 form, which you can sign and send to HMRC. More information on SSP can be found here.

If your place of work is closed due to COVID-19 and the place of work does not receive public funding for the cost of your role (such as catering assistant), you may be eligible for support from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. If you are in this category we will contact you via email to confirm.

If you work for Unitemps and your place of work receives public funding for the cost of your role, you are not eligible for this scheme as the Scheme should not be used so that the State pays twice. In this instance you may be able to apply for Universal Credit or Employment and Support Allowance

Please note, the information above is based on the current government guidance. This may be subject to change.

Canterbury Christ Church University students needing support who do not qualify for the above should contact the Student Support Health and Wellbeing team regarding the student hardship fund on 01227 922675 or studentwellbeing@canterbury.ac.uk.

You will need to claim your hours / holiday hours in the usual way and the payroll team will process in line with the cutoff and pay dates.
